Job Description

Insight Global is looking for a DAS Engineer to join the Network Engineering team of one of our largest healthcare clients in New York City. We need a DAS Engineer to analyze, configure, troubleshoot the cellular connection throughout the hospital locations. They must have extensive experience working within JMA and Prose DAS Systems. This role will be at least 3 days a week onsite at 1 Park Avenue.

Required Skills & Experience

1. Project Initiation & Scope Development
1. Engage business stakeholders to define coverage objectives (clinical, public safety, enterprise mobility, etc.)
2. Gather building data:
a) Floorplans (CAD / BIM)
b) Construction materials
c) Ceiling heights
d) Utility pathways
e) Identify building square footage
f) Building maximum capacity
3. Define performance requirements:
1. Signal strength targets (e.g., -95 dBm or better)
2. Throughput targets
3. Capacity assumptions (devices per sq ft)
4. Public Safety / First Responder requirements
4. Identify supported carriers:
a) Verizon
b) AT&T
c) T-Mobile
5. Identify spectrum bands required (low band, mid band, CBRS, C-band, Band 14, etc.)
6. Confirm regulatory requirements (IFC, NFPA, local AHJ)
7. Develop high-level budget estimates
8. Establish project governance and milestones
2. Technical Solution Development – working with DAS integrator
1. Coordinate predictive RF modeling (iBwave or equivalent)

3. Determine DAS architecture:

b) Hybrid Fiber-Coax
c) Digital DAS
d) Efemto cell solutions
e) DRAN solutions
4. Define headend requirements:
a) Power
b) Rack space
c) Environmental controls
5.Design fiber backbone requirements
6.Determine most cost-effective DAS Solution
7.Define antenna placement and zoning
8.Determine signal source strategy:
a) Off-air donor
b) Small cell
c) Carrier-provided BTS
d) Baseband unit integration
9. Define redundancy requirements
10. Develop detailed Bill of Materials (BOM)
11.Produce construction-ready design documentation
3. RFP Development & Evaluation
1. Develop detailed Statement of Work (SOW)
2. Define performance specifications:
a) Coverage thresholds
b) Carrier acceptance criteria
c) Commissioning requirements
3. Establish integration requirements:
a) Networking backhaul
b) Power and UPS
c) Monitoring system integration
4. Define warranty and SLA expectations
5. Work with Contracts team to issue RFP to qualified DAS integrators
6. Lead technical Q&A sessions
7. Evaluate proposals based on:
a) Technical compliance
b) RF design quality
c) Carrier relationships
d) Cost structure (CapEx + OpEx)
e) Experience in healthcare / enterprise environments
8. Conduct vendor interviews and site references
9. Develop scoring matrix
10. Recommend vendor selection
4. Carrier Signal Source Negotiation & Coordination
1. Initiate engagement with carrier RF engineering teams
2. Support Contract team to negotiate signal source delivery model:
a) Carrier-provided base station
b) Neutral host agreement
c) Signal source cost-sharing
3. Define:
a) One-time capital contribution
b) Ongoing MRC (monthly recurring charges)
c) Power and space allocation
4. Coordinate spectrum activation timelines
5. Coordinate carrier engineering survey
6. Facilitate technical interconnect requirements
7. Obtain carrier design approval
8. Coordinate carrier equipment installation
9. Coordinate carrier commissioning and turn-up
10. Manage carrier acceptance testing
5. DAS Integration Vendor Oversight
1. Review detailed RF design for compliance with performance requirements
2. Approve construction drawings
3. Validate equipment selection
4. Review grounding and bonding design
5. Oversee headend build-out
6. Monitor fiber installation quality
7. Conduct installation QA audits
8. Ensure compliance with:
a) Safety standards
b) Fire code
c) Structured cabling standards
6. Construction & Trade Coordination
1. Coordinate facilities and environmental requirements with Project PM:
a) Electrical contractors
b) Low-voltage contractors
c) General contractors
d) Facilities management
2. Coordinate DAS cabling/equipment delivery
3. Ensure pathway readiness before antenna install
4. Schedule installation to minimize operational disruption
5. Coordinate roof access (if donor or GPS antenna is used)
6. Validate labeling and documentation standards
7. Ensure grounding, lightning protection, and bonding compliance
7. System Installation Oversight
1. Supervise antenna installation and orientation
2. Validate proper coax and fiber terminations
3. Ensure headend equipment installation per manufacturer standards
4. Confirm power redundancy implementation
5. Oversee integration with network monitoring (if applicable)
6. Verify alarm integration into NOC
8. Testing & Validation
1. Conduct post-installation RF sweep testing
2. Perform grid testing (per floor)
3. Validate signal strength compliance
4. Validate SINR and throughput performance
5. Conduct public safety acceptance testing (if required)
6. Coordinate multi-carrier validation walkthrough
7. Confirm handoff between sectors
8. Ensure uplink and downlink performance compliance
9. Validate failover and redundancy
10. Ensure installation is neat and in a professional manner
11. Review post iBwave heat maps and fiber test results.
12. Review cable sweep and PIM test results.
9. Documentation & Operational Turnover
1. Review and approve as-built drawings
2. Validate RF heatmaps match design expectations

5. Ensure all carrier approval documentation is completed
6. Collect warranty documentation and test results
7. Transfer configuration documentation to operations
