Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Relay Protection & Controls Engineer to support one of the largest investor owned energy companies in the United States. This role sits within the Control Systems Engineering group under Central Engineering and supports transmission and distribution systems across the network, with a focus on both new and existing substations and power system assets.

This position plays a critical role in maintaining system reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance. The engineer will be responsible for the design, application, and implementation of protective relay systems, including performing detailed short circuit and fault studies using industry standard tools such as CAPE. Based on these analyses, the engineer will develop relay settings, coordination strategies, loadability analyses, and associated documentation. Responsibilities also include developing and maintaining relay setting files and technical records, reviewing and marking up protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, and logic drawings, and providing technical guidance to design engineering teams.

The role requires close collaboration with field operations, construction, testing teams, and external protection and controls integration vendors. The engineer will review vendor deliverables for accuracy and compliance, support factory and site acceptance testing, assist with commissioning and troubleshooting efforts, and ensure designs meet internal, industry, and regulatory standards. As part of major capital initiatives, including new substation buildouts, the engineer will serve as a technical authority for relay protection, supporting projects from design through commissioning and regulatory review as needed.
