Job Description

Insight Global is looking for an Automation Engineer for an end client to join their Electrical Systems Engineering group in Spring Valley, NY to work hybrid onsite and remote. This individual will work in a lab environment alongside engineers and SCADA specialists to evaluate, configure, program, and test distribution automation devices, including reclosers, switches, sectionalizers, RTUs/RTACs, meters, sensors, controllers, and communication modems. The Automation Engineer will be responsible for configuring RTUs and controllers, programming and validating logic, and modifying vendor specific code to ensure devices comply with DNP3 and applicable IEC standards. In the lab, this role will involve simulating fault conditions, injecting current and voltage signals, verifying device response timing and accuracy, and confirming alarms, statuses, and control actions function correctly. The engineer will also support SCADA integration by testing remote control commands and troubleshooting communication issues, retesting and adjusting configurations as needed to ensure all equipment meets utility standards prior to field commissioning.

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or 8+ years of recent relevant experience
2+ years of experience as an automation engineer working on reclosers, switches, sectionalizers, RTUs/RTACs, meters, sensors, controllers, and communication modems
Experience troubleshooting and programming PLCs using ladder logic such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider Electric, or equivalent.
Strong knowledge being able to apply specific protocols
Experience Calibrating transmitters
SCADA integration and testing between SCADA systems and field devices
SCADA/HMI Configuration
