Mechanical Engineer

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Facilities Engineering team for one of our largest utility clients in NY. We are looking for someone who can provide in-house expertise for a wide range of mechanical engineering projects supporting capital and O&M budgets across Facilities, Steam Distribution, Substation Operations, Electrical Operations, IT, and Transportation. Operating under general supervision, this role involves designing and engineering HVAC systems, controls, pumping, and heat exchange systems for commercial buildings and service yards. The engineer will establish design criteria, perform equipment sizing and selection, review contractor designs and submittals, and ensure compliance with NYS and NYC Building Codes.

Additional responsibilities include conducting cost-benefit analyses, preparing budgets and appropriation requests, coordinating with architects and consultants, and serving as a technical lead or expert witness when needed. This role is critical for delivering routine, emergency, and high-impact projects efficiently and reliably.

1. Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering
2. 8+ years of experience in mechanical design and engineering applications (or 6+ years with a Masters)
3. Expertise in HVAC and mechanical systems for commercial buildings, including equipment sizing and selection
4. Strong knowledge of NYS and NYC Building Codes and regulatory compliance
5. Proven ability to manage complex projects involving cross-functional coordination, budgeting, and design review

1. Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Demonstrates advanced technical knowledge and leadership potential.
2. 6+ years of experience in mechanical engineering with a focus on design and application of engineering principles.
3. Experience serving as a consultant or expert witness in specialized areas of mechanical engineering
