Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Reliability Engineer with expertise in silicon photonics and optical devices to ensure the long-term performance and durability of photonic integrated circuits (PICs), lasers, modulators, and detectors. This engineer will identify failure mechanisms, design reliability tests, develop lifetime prediction models, and build high-power stress testing capabilities to support advanced optical technologies.

Key Responsibilities
Lead reliability testing for optical devices (PICs, lasers, detectors, modulators) at both the chip and packaging level.

Identify and mitigate failure mechanisms (e.g., glue degradation, cracking, fiber interface issues, optical power-induced degradation).

Design and execute HTOL and environmental stress tests (thermal, humidity, voltage, high optical power).

Build and scale high optical power testing setups (150500 mW, targeting 200 mW+).

Develop new lifetime prediction models from scratch to forecast device performance.

Design and validate custom test structures (Pcells) beyond existing libraries.

Work cross-functionally with product, packaging, test engineering, and customer teams to close reliability gaps.

Prepare reliability reports and communicate results to stakeholders and standards bodies.

Required Skills & Experience

Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Photonics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.

8+ years of experience in silicon photonics, optical device reliability, or similar roles.

Strong understanding of optical device physics and packaging-induced reliability issues.

Proven expertise with HTOL testing, JEDEC reliability standards, and optical qualification.

Experience in environmental stress testing for optical devices under extreme conditions.

Ability to develop lifetime prediction models (PhD in photonics strongly preferred).

Proficiency with simulation/design tools (Cadence, Lumerical, COMSOL, HFSS).

Strong cross-functional collaboration and customer-facing communication skills.

Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
