Materials Characterization Technologist - Wet

Insight Global is seeking a driven and experienced Materials Characterization Technologist - WET, to support its Nuclear Fuel Characterization Laboratory and advanced fuel development programs. This individual will work alongside engineers, scientists, and laboratory personnel to perform analytical testing and characterization activities that support fuel product development, production campaigns, qualification testing, and materials research. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and conducting analytical studies utilizing technologies such as ICP-MS, ICP-OES, HPLC, and LCMS, performing characterization and testing of nuclear fuel products and radiological samples, preparing materials in gloveboxes and open-front hoods, and developing techniques for complex sample handling. The role will involve acquiring, analyzing, and interpreting experimental data; characterizing trace impurities in process effluents, including residual uranium and VOC content; performing analytical sample preparation activities such as digestion, serial dilution, and calibration curve development; and communicating results through technical reports and presentations. Additional responsibilities include supporting the commissioning, calibration, and maintenance of analytical instrumentation, managing laboratory data and LIMS systems, developing and optimizing characterization methods and experimental processes, monitoring laboratory inventory and procurement needs, participating in continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance with all applicable safety, radiological, environmental, and quality requirements. This is onsite 5 days a week with a salary ranging from $70-80K

Associates or Bachelor’s in Materials Science or other related field in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM); or the equivalent combination of relevant education and/or work experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment, ideally in characterization operations, analytical chemistry, or other related application.
Experience with working in a radiation environment, working with radioactive materials, or working in similar high hazard environments.
Demonstrated proficiency in some combination of ICP-MS, ICP-OES, HPLC, and/or LCMS technologies for analytical testing.
Experience with complementary data analysis software (e.g., image processing; EBSD, EDS; custom data processing using Python, R, or similar; etc.) is a plus
Experience analyzing and interpreting data and effectively communicating results via technical reports, presentations and publications.
Experience in the maintenance of analytical equipment strongly preferred.
Prior experience characterizing materials such as graphite, beryllium, stainless steel, or nuclear fuel forms (e.g., TRISO particles) is a plus.
