Job Description

The Discovery & Operational Assessment Lead will conduct a 12-week diagnostic assessment of a multi-unit team within a telecommunications organization. The objective of the engagement is to develop a fact-based, actionable understanding of operational performance, cost drivers, and improvement opportunities across people, processes, technology, and governance.

The role is accountable for delivering an evidence-backed assessment, executive-level findings recap, and an actionable roadmap of recommendations to enable measurable efficiency gains and cost savings.

Key Objectives
Assess the effectiveness, efficiency, and scalability of the current operating model
Identify opportunities to enable cost efficiencies and productivity improvements
Evaluate alignment between work demand, roles, skills, and supporting technology
Provide leadership with clear, defensible insights and recommendations

Core Responsibilities
Process & Operating Model Assessment
Analyze end-to-end workflows, controls, handoffs, and cycle times
Evaluate process standardization, variance, rework, and failure demand
Identify efficiency improvement opportunities through process redesign, simplification, or automation

Organizational Design & Team Effectiveness
Assess the balance, roles, and operating synergy between the two units within the team
Evaluate role clarity, functional overlap, dependency management, and accountability
Identify opportunities to reduce duplication and improve workload distribution

Technology & Systems Evaluation
Assess the quality, fitness-for-purpose, and utilization of the existing technology stack
Evaluate system interoperability, data flow, tooling overlaps, and manual workarounds
Identify opportunities for tool consolidation, enhancement, or retirement

Skills, Capability & Role Alignment
Assess individual and collective skills, experience, and capability maturity
Evaluate alignment between role cost/seniority and actual work performed
Identify opportunities for resourcing optimization, role redesign, or alternative staffing models

Oversight, Governance & Management Needs
Assess management span, decision rights, escalation paths, and performance oversight
Evaluate governance and reporting mechanisms relative to team size and complexity
Identify gaps in leadership visibility, control, or capacity

Stakeholder, Delivery & Demand Management
Interface closely with Delivery Managers actively overseeing the team to ensure alignment on scope, access to information, and operational context
Assess operating relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Evaluate intake, prioritization, and demand management practices
Identify avoidable demand drivers and stakeholder friction points

Status Reporting & Executive Communication
Provide regular status updates on discovery progress to primary stakeholders and sponsors
Communicate emerging themes, risks, and dependencies throughout the engagement
Synthesize findings into a clear, executive-level recap of assessment outcomes
Construct and present a prioritized roadmap of recommendations to enable cost savings, operational efficiency, and execution improvements

Required Skills & Experience

5+ years of experience in operational assessment, transformation, or consulting

Proven ability to assess cost structures, operating efficiency, and resource alignment

Strong executive communication, facilitation, and synthesis skills

Ability to facilitate and implement process improvements and ways of working through Gap analysis

Knowledge of Adobe Workfront

Workstream mapping and process flow mapping experience

Comfortable operating independently in ambiguity within a fixed-duration engagement

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Knowledge of Marketing organizations, Localizing Content or Translation work
Spanish to English Translation
