Job Description
Our client's API Team is looking to build out an API Center of Excellence. This API CoE will entail all things APIs; API development, API security, API design, API best practices, building REST APIs, Graph APIs, GRPC, AsyncAPI, etc.
You will be focused on anything architecture-related to building APIs. This role is going to facilitate our client’s API transformation; Building modern and secure APIs and helping people go through that journey day-to-day.
This role is NOT a development role. You’re going to do some occasional coding, but you’re also going to be doing “Computer Art” meaning API style recommendations. You’ll read API specifications that teams submit, and then make recommendations for style improvements based on security, quality, etc. This position is more design-centric to the API development. Another facet of this role will be getting associates on to our client’s new API Platform, Kong. You will help the associates understand how services are built, vet use cases, recommend improvements on standard path vs custom path etc. You will train these associates on the Kong platform. You do not need to have previous experience or exposure to the Kong platform, Our client will train you on it once you join. You will walk associates through the journey from building an API all the way to running the API once it’s in production. This is a long-term opportunity with a growing team!

Required Skills & Experience
• Aligning teams onboarding to Kong to the API transformation within API standards
• Enforcing API architecture standards and REST best practices
• Reviewing, commenting, and suggesting improvements for API specifications
• Maintaining the API design tool (Swaggerhub) including rules, CICD integrations, SSO, etc.
• Reviewing and understanding API use cases, validating if they are appropriate to onboard to Kong
• Being a source of knowledge and excellence for APIs including but not limited to; REST, GraphQL, GRPC, asyncAPI
• Writing, updating, maintaining documentation and training material for onboarding to Kong
