Job Description

The primary responsibility of the Collection Manager is to manage and oversee the corporate fine art collection and Bellagio Gallery of Fine Arts exhibition coordination. The Collection Manager will receive, prepare, and catalog new acquisitions; coordinate and oversee collection and exhibition-related movement of objects, including packing, shipping, insurance; supervise the Art Handlers; maintain the fine art collection database; and other responsibilities.
The Collections Manager is comfortable installing a range of artwork, including but not limited to 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional and digital media across multiple MGM owned properties. The Collection Manager will be expected to plan and implement solutions to various logistical issues as they arise in the fulfillment of their required duties. This is a hands-on position requiring heavy lifting of large and/or delicate artworks; specialized archival packing practices; knowledge of proper art transportation methods; installing of works of any size, configuration and weight; understanding and implementing archival best practices; and balancing administrative tasks. All duties are to be performed in accordance with department and property policies, practices, and procedures.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Manage all aspects of collections care, following and implementing accepted museum professional standards and practices.
Directly manage the acquisition, documentation, care, maintenance and handling, use and access, security, environmental monitoring of objects and facilities, and object-based database, paper file and artwork archives.
Review and interpret financial and operating information, as appropriate; may participate in the preparation of contract and/or financial proposals, and other reports as necessary.
Collaborate on exhibition planning, including logistics, preparing budgets for related costs, preparing checklists and images of objects for exhibitions, publications, and research.
Oversee and lead collection and exhibition logistics, documentation, condition reports, and object security.
In collaboration with the Director Art & Culture and other team members, establish object conservation priorities and plans/implements the safe storage of all works in the collection.
Supervise and schedule Art Handlers and fine art vendors to accomplish business needs and meet target deadlines.

Required Skills & Experience

Minimum 1 year of art handling experience preferred
3-5 years of experience in a job related to the art industry
Familiarity with warehouse tools and equipment
Knowledge of construction materials, including drywall, painting, framing materials, and lumber
Intermediate computer skills (Word, Excel, and email correspondence)
Understanding of historical and contemporary art
Strong interpersonal skills with effective verbal communication
Basic math and measuring abilities
Experience with small tools (mechanical and power)
Able to lift 40 lbs or more
Capable of standing for extended periods and walking long distances

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Basic knowledge of framing techniques
Basic carpentry and woodworking
Bachelors degree or Masters degree
