Job Description
A client of Insight Global is looking for a Virtual Construction Tech Lead for their VC team. The ideal candidate will serve as the technical authority for virtual construction technology across mechanical sheet metal, piping, and plumbing operations. This individual will lead and standardize digital workflows that support fabrication, layout, and field installation, with a strong focus on model-based layout using Trimble RTS total stations. They will ensure accuracy in model preparation, control points, and naming conventions while providing hands-on support to field layout crews for setup, calibration, and troubleshooting. Additionally, they will lead reality capture initiatives, managing scanning workflows, point cloud data, and integration into virtual construction models to support coordination, QA/QC, and as-built documentation. This role will partner closely with project teams, VC leadership, and field stakeholders to ensure technology, models, and data align with jobsite needs and union work practices.
The ideal candidate will also establish and maintain model setup and data management standards, ensuring consistency across file structures, shared coordinates, version control, and metadata. They will optimize models for coordination, fabrication, and field use while supporting clash detection and constructability reviews. This individual will own and maintain the virtual construction database, ensuring clean, reliable data for layout, prefabrication, and project deliverables, and will support seamless data handoff to teams. In addition, the ideal candidate will train field and project teams on Trimble tools and workflows, develop standardized documentation, and drive continuous improvement by evaluating new technologies and enhancing processes to support operational excellence across the organization.

Required Skills & Experience
5+ years of experience in VC database or Modeling content
Extensive hands-on experience with RTS and layout workflows
Experience with scanners and point cloud processing
Strong knowledge of VC platforms such as Revit and Revizto
Solid understanding of model setup, shared coordinates, and digital control
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Proficiency in Trimble Business Center (TBC), Trimble Connect, or similar platforms
Experience working within prefabrication
