Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Utility Line Locator to support underground telecommunications construction projects. This role works as part of a two-person crew alongside a Ground Construction Drill Operator and is responsible for accurately locating, marking, and protecting existing underground utilities prior to and during drilling operations. The Utility Line Locator plays a critical safety role on site and must be highly proficient in reading design drawings, using locating and spotting equipment, and guiding heavy machinery to prevent utility strikes.
Key Responsibilities:
• Locate, identify, and mark underground utilities prior to excavation and drilling activities
• Read, interpret, and verify design drawings, utility maps, and construction plans with a higher level of detail than the drill operator
• Act as the primary spotter for heavy machinery, guiding drill operations to ensure safe clearance around existing utilities
• Work closely with the drill operator and construction crew to maintain safe and efficient job site operations
• Utilize utility locating tools and equipment; Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) experience is a plus
• Continuously monitor ground conditions and adjust spotting guidance as needed during drilling
• Ensure all work complies with OSHA standards, company safety policies, and local utility regulations
• Assist with documentation, markings, and communication related to utility locations
• Support general underground construction activities as needed
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and remain alert around active heavy equipment for extended periods

Required Skills & Experience
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Utility Line Locator or in a closely related underground construction specialty
• Proven experience locating underground utilities in active construction environments
• Strong ability to read and understand design drawings and construction plans
• Experience working directly around ground drilling or excavation equipment
Experience in underground construction such as plumbing, electrical, sewer, or telecommunications
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Safety certifications (OSHA, confined space, utility safety, etc.)
• Experience using GPR and other advanced locating technologies
• Prior experience serving as a dedicated spotter for heavy machinery
Spanish-speaking candidates strongly preferred (not required)
