Job Description

The Chief Engineer oversees essential mechanical, electrical, and safety systems within an industrial battery production environment. This role ensures constant operational uptime, maintains a strict safety culture, and leads a growing technical team. A strong mechanical background, hands on troubleshooting ability, and clear communication skills are critical. The manager will spend most of their time supporting and developing technicians, ensuring all systems—such as chilled water, air compressors, and fire/life safety—operate reliably without vendor dependence.
Key Responsibilities:
• Maintain uninterrupted production by ensuring all facility and mechanical systems operate safely and efficiently.
• Enforce PPE use, lockout/tagout, and all safety protocols; uphold a zero tolerance approach for repeated violations.
• Lead, mentor, and grow a small technical team while delegating effectively and serving as the on site subject matter expert.
• Communicating with vendors and contracting scope of cost
• Diagnose, repair, and maintain critical systems without relying on third party vendors; prioritize self-performance and risk management.
• Conduct routine inspections, use plant sensors, and identify issues proactively to prevent downtime.

Required Skills & Experience

- Universal EPA CFC Certification required
- 7+ years of hands on industrial experience (bachelor’s degree preferred; required if less than 7 years)
- Strong mechanical and electrical background in heavy industrial / high production environments
o Proven experience maintaining and troubleshooting critical equipment: cooling towers, boilers, RTUs, motors, bearings, air compressors, dock equipment, overhead cranes, hydraulic systems, and fire alarm systems
- Advanced electrical and HVAC troubleshooting with a self perform, no vendor reliance mindset
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop technical teams while managing operational risk and maintaining production continuity
