Job Description
A client of Insight Global is seeking a Senior Controls Instrumentation Technician to support on‑site controls and instrumentation work for HVAC and building automation systems, primarily within healthcare and laboratory environments. This role focuses on controls rather than mechanical work and involves supporting new construction projects, which represent the majority of the client base. The technician is responsible for the controls portion of large systems such as chillers, boilers, and air handlers, working with low‑voltage wiring, networking, and control hardware. Responsibilities include reviewing technical packages, installing and configuring software, and working directly on-site at new construction locations to ensure systems are properly integrated and operational.
The Senior Controls Instrumentation Technician performs point‑to‑point and communications checkouts, validates control programs, and verifies that sensors, instrumentation, computers, and control modules are functioning as designed. This individual serves as the controls expert on-site, using a laptop, testing equipment, and control tools to troubleshoot and commission systems. The role requires the ability to review, modify, and develop control logic using both line‑code and block‑based programming platforms, with exposure to advanced programming concepts comparable to C++-style languages. While deep expertise is not required, the technician must demonstrate strong technical aptitude, programming capability, and the capacity to support and learn evolving control technologies.
