Job Description

A leading energy client of Insight Global is seeking a Gas Turbine Materials and Process Engineer to join their engineering team based in Sedalia, MO! You will be responsible for selecting, analyzing, and optimizing materials and manufacturing processes for gas turbine components to ensure performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, repair, and quality teams, you'll drive improvements in material selection, process engineering, and product performance. You will get the opportunity to train under world renowned engineers in the Gas Turbine space.

Position Responsibilities

- Lead the selection of advanced materials for gas turbine components, evaluating factors such as strength, heat resistance, corrosion, fatigue, life, and cost.
- Conduct materials testing and analysis to assess suitability for turbine applications.
- Develop and implement material specifications in line with industry standards.
- Identify and optimize manufacturing and repair processes to meet design and performance criteria.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and repair teams to improve processes and introduce new technologies (e.g., material, forging, coating, welding, casting, machining).
- Optimize thermal and mechanical processing techniques (e.g., heat treatment, coating deposition) to enhance material properties.
- Investigate material failures and process inconsistencies, conducting root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
- Provide technical recommendations for process improvements based on failure analysis and operational feedback.
- Work with cross-functional teams (design, manufacturing, repair, quality, customers, suppliers) to ensure material and process compatibility with design requirements.
- Advise on material and process choices during new product development to align with performance and cost goals.
- Ensure materials and processes comply with industry standards, regulations, and customer requirements.
- Prepare technical reports, material specifications, process flow diagrams, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve material selection, processing methods, and overall efficiency.
- Contribute to developing best practices and technical standards for gas turbine materials and processes.

Required Skills & Experience

- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering (with an emphasis in materials / process), materials science, or materials engineering
- 5 - 10 years of experience with material selection OR process engineering WITHIN aerospace or power generation or gas turbine industries
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as fabrication, casting, forging, welding, heat treatment, peening, surface coating, material science, metal alloys, composites, and coatings
