Job Description
A client of Insight Global is seeking to add a Senior GIS Database Specialist to its growing team in Kansas City, MO! This position will be responsible for the oversight and management of all aspects of GIS and geospatial technologies including GIS project or data management, GIS technology integration, FME Authoring, mentoring, and managing staff, coordinating with other GIS leads across the company, and leading business development efforts. The Senior GIS Specialist will lead functional teams to deliver GIS data and GIS services to internal and external clients, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, customer commitment, sense of urgency, and continuous improvement. Additional responsibilities include:
• Assist in managing the workload and priorities of the GIS team to ensure that productivity goals are met and that projects are delivered on time and within budget.
• Ensure timely status updates and technical details are communicated to project teams and project managers.
• Maintain a collaborative partnership between office managers, project managers, technical service area leads and GIS staff to provide responsive support for our project, field, and marketing efforts.
• Interface with new and existing clients to develop GIS services and grow business to support and prime contract roles on various projects and initiatives.
• Lead regular group meetings to communicate and discuss corporate messages, training, and program information.
• Responsible for developing and implementing Training programs for GIS staff.
• Responsible for QA/QC within the GIS and FME group.
• Work with department managers, project managers, innovation, and GIS staff to identify opportunities for advancement on current and future projects and processes.
• Serve as GIS lead responsible for documenting standard GIS protocols and procedures governing GIS data development, database management, analysis, mapping, reporting, and in accordance with Burns & McDonnells high QA/QC standards.
• Support and develop data governance standards and schemas related to spatial data and effectively communicate and oversee compliance of policies and procedures to all levels of GIS users across the organization.
• Support internal and external marketing efforts by developing technical scopes of work, cost estimates, and schedules.
• Participate in presentations, client interviews, and other business development activities.
• Adhere to a clean, organized, and well-designed file structure for both spatial and non-spatial data.
Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
Required Skills & Experience
§ Bachelors degree in Geography, Cartography, Archaeology, Anthropology, Biology, Environmental Science, or related field with an emphasis in GIS (or GIS certificate).
§ Equivalent experience and coursework are also acceptable
§ 14+ years of professional GIS experience
§ Experience with FME server preferred
§ Proficient knowledge and ability to utilize FME Form (formerly desktop) and FME Flow (formerly server)
§ Comfortable with up to 20% travel
§ Proficient knowledge and ability to utilize ArcGIS Pro 2.0 or higher & ArcGIS Online
§ Ideally ArcGIS Pro 3.0 or higher
§ Experience with Lidar point cloud data
§ Python
§ Proficient knowledge and ability to utilize CAD software (AutoCAD, Bentley, PLS-CADD, or similar)
§ Knowledge of cartography and computer mapping including design principles and understanding map and mapping automation procedures in ArcGIS
§ Demonstrated ability to perform spatial analyseswithin ArcGIS while maintaining data integrity
§ Experience marketing GIS services to internal and external clients
§ Experience working on multiple complex projects with multiple stakeholders on short timelines
§ Prior knowledge and experience with ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Experience Builder, Model Builder, database management, and other GIS platforms
§ Ability to work and communicate effectively with company leaders, project managers, and other non-GIS professionals
§ Ability to produce presentations, and/or written protocol of methods for reports or within metadata to replicate GIS-related analyses or modeling techniques applied on projects
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
§ Masters degree in a related field - Environmental Science, Geology, Biology, or Anthropology
§ Experience in installation and configuration of Safe Software products
§ Prior work experience in the environmental consulting industry or a background in natural or cultural resources management, and/or environmental resources
Prior knowledge and experience with Arcade, Python, VBA, Javascript, and .Net programming languages
