Job Description

Candidates must be willing to complete a Databricks pre-assessment to be considered for this role. The hours for this position will follow CST/EST time zones and candidates must be willing to work standard business hours within those time zones.

Our client is looking to onboard 3 consultants to help with an effort to migrate production DBT models from Snowflake to Databricks to support a healthcare client reporting portal.

Responsibilities
• Convert Snowflake DBT models to Databricks with the assistance of AI coding tools
• Refactor complex SQL (CTEs, window functions, joins) from Snowflake to Databricks syntax and align to team data architecture standards
• Implement Delta Lake optimizations (partitioning, Z-ordering, incremental loads)
• Create comprehensive DBT tests for data quality and validation
• Tag PHI/PII columns and ensure HIPAA compliance
• Optimize models for Tableau dashboard query performance
• Self-validate conversions before submitting to QA
• Document models and conversion decisions

Required Skills & Experience

Candidates must be willing to complete a databricks pre-assessment to be considered for this role.

Technical:
• 3+ years data engineering experience
• 2+ years Databricks/Spark SQL in production (not just Snowflake)
• 2+ years DBT development (models, tests, macros)
• Strong SQL (complex joins, window functions, CTEs, query optimization)
• Delta Lake experience (partitioning, OPTIMIZE, VACUUM)
• Healthcare data experience (PHI/PII handling, HIPAA awareness)

AI Tools (Preferred):
• Daily professional use of AI coding tools (Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar)
• Proven ability to generate code with AI and refine output
• Experience reviewing AI-generated code for correctness and security
• Comfortable achieving 3-4x productivity with AI assistance

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Snowflake → Databricks migration experience
• Tableau data modeling and performance optimization
• Unity Catalog hands-on experience
• SCD Type 2 slowly changing dimensions
• Great Expectations or dbt tests framework
