Job Description

Job Overview
A client of Insight Global is seeking a Lead Shop Mechanic to oversee daily shop operations and support the maintenance and repair of a large fleet of excavation equipment. This individual will play a key leadership role, ensuring equipment reliability, managing shop personnel, and maintaining efficient workflows.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage and lead a shop team of 3 mechanics, providing guidance and oversight
- Oversee maintenance and repair for a fleet of ~120 pieces of equipment (primarily John Deere and Kenworth)
- Perform and ensure completion of DOT inspections
- Conduct routine equipment inspections and implement preventative maintenance plans
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic system issues
- Utilize software diagnostic tools to troubleshoot equipment
- Coordinate and execute service calls as needed
- Develop equipment repair schedules and lookahead plans
- Order parts and manage inventory of shop supplies
- Ensure shop organization, safety, and operational efficiency

Required Skills & Experience

- Strong experience working with heavy equipment, heavy-duty trucks, and medium-duty pickups
- Proven experience performing DOT inspections
- Proficiency in software-based diagnostics
- Strong electrical and hydraulic system diagnostic skills
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience within a shop environment
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
