Job Description
A leading automotive OEM engineering organization is seeking an Electronic Systems Development Director to lead advanced vehicle system design across electronic, infotainment, and autonomous domains. This role is responsible for guiding the development of next‑generation vehicle electronic architectures, driving innovation initiatives, and ensuring high standards of electronics quality for vehicles in the North American market.
In this role, you will spearhead cost optimization initiatives, lead engineering teams across multiple levels, and deliver clear, strategic reporting to executive leadership and key regulatory bodies such as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
You will ensure seamless system integration across hardware, software, and vehicle platforms—partnering with cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑performing, safe, and innovative technologies aligned with global product objectives and regulatory requirement
Define and execute the Electronic Systems Development organization’s vision, mission, annual roadmap, and budget. Establish clear goals and performance expectations aligned with short‑ and long‑term business objectives within North American vehicle development.
Lead and develop Managers and Engineering teams responsible for automotive electronics, including design issue resolution, market adaptability analysis, and early‑stage concept development. Drive innovation, support product quality initiatives, lead cost‑reduction strategies, and develop long-term technology roadmaps.
Conduct detailed design reviews to evaluate system and component performance, assess solutions for open issues, align implementation timing, and ensure execution against program milestones.
Provide technical oversight across projects by establishing risk assessments and mitigation strategies, ensuring progress against program timelines, and maintaining high-quality engineering deliverables.
Support engineering studies, competitive benchmarking, and customer-focused research to align product development with market needs.
Generate regular reports summarizing program progress, accomplishments, and future activities.
Develop technical documentation and executive-level presentations for internal leadership, global R&D teams, manufacturing partners, and regulatory organizations.
Oversee development across key domains including infotainment, connected vehicle systems, embedded electronics, cybersecurity, electrical design, mobile applications, cloud integration, ADAS, autonomous driving, and automated parking technologies.
Participate in regular leadership reviews to align on product strategy, priorities, and execution plans.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Vehicle Evaluation, Regulatory & Certification, and Product Planning to support validation testing, design improvements, and vehicle development initiatives.
Drive alignment across electronics, infotainment, and autonomous engineering teams by promoting shared tools, collaboration models, and cross-domain innovation.
Support department financial planning, forecasting, and budget management.
Handle operational and administrative responsibilities including approvals, resource planning, and team management activities.
Contribute to additional strategic initiatives and projects as required.
Travel domestically and internationally as needed.

Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.
-8+ years of engineering leadership experience
- 10+ years of experience in design and release of automotive electronic systems and components
- Technincal expertise in all three areas: ADAS, Infotainment, and electronic development
- Background in connected vehicle ecosystems, cloud platforms, API, and cybersecurity
Working knowledge of programming languages and embedded operating systems
Strong understanding of embedded architecture, system integration, and application behavior
Experience with cloud platforms, server-side systems, and connected services
Knowledge of ADAS/autonomous systems including perception, sensor fusion, control systems, and machine learning frameworks
Familiarity with high-performance compute platforms, real-time systems, and validation tools for autonomous technologies
Strong foundation in analog and digital circuit design, including SoC platforms, power electronics, and integrated circuits
