Job Description

Insight Global is looking for a Coating - Laboratory Materials Testing Technician responsible for performing qualification testing on paints, sealers, and adhesives in accordance with material specifications. This role supports engineering teams by executing laboratory tests, documenting results, and ensuring all work follows established safety and quality standards.


Responsibilities:

Perform laboratory paint qualification testing per material specifications, including:
• Paint adhesion
• Pencil hardness
• Color and gloss measurements
• Xenon weathering
• Water exposure
• Salt spray resistance
• Humidity exposure
• Cold crack testing
Perform laboratory sealer qualification testing, including but not limited to:
• DGU, LASD, hem sealers, body sealers, and baffle sealers
• Testing methods such as lap shear adhesion, knife cut adhesion, viscosity, hardness, specific gravity, salt spray resistance, and tack free time
Perform laboratory adhesive qualification testing, including:
• Mastics, hot melt adhesives, and pressure sensitive adhesives
• Testing methods such as lap shear adhesion, knife cut adhesion, viscosity, hardness, specific gravity, salt spray resistance, and tack free time
Accurately record, analyze, and prepare laboratory test results for review by engineering staff
Utilize Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) to document results and communicate findings
Always follow and maintain common laboratory safety practices

Required Skills & Experience

Must Haves:
• Hands on experience with laboratory procedures and testing
• Experience testing paints, sealers, and/or adhesives
• If experience with all three is not available, sealer and adhesive testing experience is preferred
• Proficiency with Windows based computer systems and Microsoft Office products
• Knowledge of and adherence to safe laboratory practices

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Nice to haves:
• Prior experience working in a materials testing or product qualification lab
• Familiarity with material specifications and standardized testing methods
