Job Description
The Controls Engineer is responsible for analyzing, developing, and migrating legacy Siemens S7 300 PLC programs to the Siemens S7 1500 platform using TIA Portal. Day to day activities include reviewing existing PLC logic and hardware configurations, refactoring or rewriting code to align with S7 1500 architecture, configuring hardware and networks, and implementing modern features such as optimized data blocks and enhanced diagnostics. The engineer develops and tests control logic through offline simulation and structured testing, troubleshoots software and communications issues, and ensures functional equivalence—or improvement—of all machine sequences, interlocks, and fault handling.
During implementation, the engineer supports on site commissioning, software downloads, signal validation, and production cutovers. The role includes documenting software changes, maintaining version control, and collaborating with manufacturing, maintenance, IT/OT, and integrators to ensure a stable transition. This position requires independent problem solving, deep Siemens controls expertise, and direct ownership of software performance in a production environment.
