Job Description

Job Overview:
The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) will provide comprehensive speech and language therapy services to elderly residents in a geriatric residential facility. The SLP will assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders to enhance the quality of life for residents.

Key Responsibilities:
-Evaluate residents' speech, language, and swallowing abilities to identify areas of difficulty and develop individualized treatment plans.
-Implement therapy programs to improve communication skills, cognitive-communication, and swallowing functions.
-Provide direct therapy services, including exercises to strengthen oral muscles, techniques to improve speech clarity, and strategies to enhance language comprehension and expression.
-Monitor and document residents' progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
-Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and occupational therapists, to ensure coordinated care.
-Educate residents, families, and staff on communication strategies and techniques to support residents' needs.
-Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss residents' progress and care plans.
-Stay current with the latest research and advancements in speech-language pathology to provide the best possible care.

Required Skills & Experience

Graduate of an accredited Therapy program
Current Speech Therapist state license (Michigan)
Excellent verbal and written communication
Position requires the ability to lift and move objects weighting up to 35 pounds without assistance

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

2 years of related experience: or equivalent combination of education and experience.
