Job Description

Job Summary:
A large automation supplier in Auburn Hills, MI is looking for an Engineer (Robot Controls and Dressout) to be responsible for the development and engineering of controls and dressout designs for the Product Plus Group (PPG) with a focus on efficient and accurate execution to help drive customer satisfaction along with overall project profitability. The ideal candidate is a customer-focused, problem-solver who has experience with robotics in various applications and proven ability to develop controls and dressout prints.

Responsibilities:
Engineer custom product plus solutions based on quoted project deliverables, change orders, and overall customer needs.
Develop dressout specifications to meet application needs and work with dressout suppliers.
Develop a plan and drawings for:
Robot with dressout installed.
Air/Water preparation equipment.
J3 equipment/pneumatics.
Robot controller interface package.
Order robot configurations, dressouts, and interface solutions on time and per customer specifications.
Hold engineering design reviews and maintain a high level of engineering accuracy following ISO procedures.
Provide regular communication/status updates to project team members and FAC management.
Provide customer support including application and implementation guidance and design approvals.
Release approved engineering packages in ERP for each project.
Support Continuous Improvement of PPG Engineering Standards and refinement of ISO processes.
Manage project costs through efficient engineering and focus on lower cost solutions.
Support manufacturing/integration efforts on FAC floor including testing plans for run-off validation.
Create and deliver technical presentations for internal and customer training.
Support failure analysis and troubleshooting efforts and present root cause and corrective action to customers.
Support integrators and line builders trying to integrate and install new robotic applications.

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelors degree in Engineering (Electrical and/or Mechanical) or related technical field; or equivalent, relevant experience.
2+ years of experience in a machine shop
2+ years of experience of industrial automation design experience
2+ years of experience developing tooling (understands metals/materials)
Ability to create and read electrical interface, robot mechanical dressout and pneumatic prints
Experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks drawing suites

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Prior experience with robot interfacing and peripheral equipment integration/operation
PLC programming experience
