Job Description

An employer is looking for an Process Engineer in the Highland Park, MI area. This person will be joining the Advanced Engineering & JIT group at an Automotive Tier I Supplier and will be responsible for the complete seat assembly process from initial design concept to production release and post-production support. This individual will be responsible for developing the complete assembly process including material flow, subassembly, trimming assembly and line sequencing. Their daily responsibilities will include: creating process flows, conducting time studies, writing work instructions for operators (90% manual assembly process), developing PFMEA, and supporting product engineering for DFMEA analysis. They will support Lean design workshops, Kaizen events, and equipment run-offs. They will review supplier initial designs and propose changes as necessary; they will work closely with both customers and suppliers by serving as the representative in difficult situations where they will be required to present engineering changes, prepare data to support their position, and negotiate for the best interest of the company.

Required Skills & Experience

* 5+ years' working experience as a Process Engineer in the automotive industry

* Automotive plant/assembly experience (quality & CI)

* Strong manual assembly process knowledge required; ability to review product design, propose changes, and define process for manual assembly of seats

* Experienced in conducting time studies -- responsible for developing and optimizing the methods time management (MTM), determining cycle times, and line balancing

* Strong interpersonal/presentation communication skills - this person will work with both suppliers and customers; must be able to build relationships, negotiate, and present information to gain buy-in from difficult stakeholders

* Willing to travel to supplier sites if needed (local Michigan travel)

* SEATING experience (Adient, JCI, Magna, Lear)
