Job Description
We are looking for a talented and motivated engineer for identifying, developing, and integrating more efficient powertrain and drivetrain technologies in our current and next generation vehicles. This position is responsible for project success as part of a project team providing technical support to internal customers in the area of Propulsion System Development/Vehicle R&D. Travel requirement for this position is up to 10%, domestic. The ideal candidate must have the following capabilities and be able to significantly contribute to achievement of the team's objectives:
* Support and establish targets for future energy efficiency (MPGe) and All Electric Range (AER) through analysis of current and future Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis battery electric and hybrid vehicles, as well as competitive vehicles
* Investigate new or advanced technologies, strategies, and methods to achieve improved MPGe and AER in current and future Hyundai and Kia battery electric vehicle (BEV) production vehicles while considering system costs, drivability, and performance impacts
* Analyze competitive data sets and assess future trends in BEV and energy efficiency related technologies
* Lead activities for developing and integrating new or advanced technologies for improving vehicle and system efficiencies, to attain targeted energy economy (MPGe) and to understand and document impacts/trade-offs to vehicle performance and drivability
* Understand and coordinate activities with other Propulsion System Development teams, as well as Product Planning and Certification and Regulation teams, for impact of proposed technologies for developing vehicles
* Setup and conduct vehicle testing for fuel economy/energy efficiency benchmarking, and analyze the test data
* Investigation and development of new, more energy-efficient technologies and strategies that enable short-term and long-term benefits for production vehicles
* Integrate new technologies in targeted vehicle applications and execute appropriate test program(s) for validation of technologies' benefits
* Research current regulatory requirements, including testing procedures, and provide concise information to help other engineers understand technical requirements to support our test and development activities
* Support engineering teams within HATCI and Hyundai Motor Group R&D Center to define and demonstrate vehicle efficiency improvement concepts and technologies in vehicle applications through testing and simulation
* Coordinate and track development test plans and status
Required Skills & Experience
* At least 1 year of industry experience (including internship/co-op experience) in one or more of following areas: (1) data acquisition system instrumentation for vehicle propulsion systems and related technologies, (2) conducting vehicle performance, emissions, and fuel economy test, (3) analyzing vehicle test data and energy flow/consumption.
* Ability to write detailed technical reports and to clearly present results and recommendations to other engineers and management team.
* Strong interpersonal and technical problem solving skills.
* Demonstrated knowledge of electrified vehicle systems, general vehicle dynamics and basic vehicle controls/calibration areas
* Experience with data acquisition systems and analysis tools such as ETAS/INCA
* Experience with development and analysis tools such as MATLAB/Simulink
* Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
