Job Description

Our client is a global law firm and recognized leader in AI and legal innovation, leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance legal services, improve client outcomes, and drive operational efficiency. AI is embedded throughout the firm in a secure, responsible, and human-centered manner, serving to augment expertise rather than replace it. The firm advises many of the world's leading technology companies on AI, data privacy, model governance, and commercialization matters, and has invested heavily in AI-powered products, tools, and platforms that deliver tangible business value. Their commitment to innovation has positioned them at the forefront of AI adoption within the legal industry.

We are building the next generation of custom agentic applications to support "the business of law" services through the responsible use of artificial intelligence. We are seeking 2 Senior/Principal and 6 Mid-Level/Senior Full Stack Software Engineers who are software engineers first and AI practitioners second. These engineers will architect and build production-grade, cloud-native applications on AWS that leverage LLMs, AgentCore, and modern AI services to solve real business problems.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on delivering scalable, secure, and maintainable applications. Candidates should have strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building AI-enabled applications using technologies such as LLMs, RAG, vector databases, semantic search, agent-based workflows, APIs, and AWS cloud services. Successful engineers understand when to use deterministic business logic versus AI-driven inference and can make sound architectural decisions balancing accuracy, performance, cost, security, and maintainability.

Engineers will work within Agile development pods supported by DevOps, SRE, Enterprise Architecture, and Product teams. The environment operates like a startup backed by a $2.5B global law firm, providing the opportunity to build enterprise-scale AI products with real business impact. The client has a robust AI strategy in place and hundreds of use cases they need to address, for example one of the team's initiatives is to create an AI-powered billing compliance platform designed to address approximately 6% revenue leakage by analyzing billing records, contract guidelines, and unstructured data to identify inefficiencies and provide actionable insights through a conversational AI interface. This is not an AI research role. It is a software engineering role focused on building and deploying real-world AI applications in AWS using modern engineering best practices.

This opportunity is a yearlong contract with long-term extensions and ability to convert fulltime. The role can sit fully remote, but preferred to be by an office location: Boston MA, NYC, Palo Alto CA, Chicago IL, Denver CO, LA, Miami FL, Reston VA, San Diego CA, San Francisco CA, Santa Monica CA, Seattle WA, or Washington DC. There is a chance of conversion to full-time down the line and require 4x a month onsite, for rare occasions fully remote may be approved.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain cloud-native software applications using Python (.NET/C#, Angular), AWS services, and modern software engineering practices.
- Architect, build, and deploy AI-enabled applications leveraging LLMs, RAG patterns, semantic search, vector databases, and agentic workflows.
- Design and implement REST APIs, integrations, data services, and backend systems aligned with business objectives.
- Analyze business problems and determine when traditional deterministic software approaches versus AI-based solutions are appropriate.
- Collaborate with Product Owners, QA Engineers, and fellow developers to deliver secure, scalable, maintainable software solutions.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Produce high-quality, well-documented, maintainable code following engineering and security best practices.
- Perform code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, defect resolution, and production support.
- Utilize AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code to improve delivery velocity and engineering effectiveness.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices, AI development standards, delivery processes, and team collaboration.

-Lead technical architecture discussions and solution design efforts.
- Design end-to-end cloud-native AWS architectures.
- Establish engineering standards, AI development patterns, and architectural best practices.
-Mentor developers and provide technical leadership across delivery pods.
- Guide technical decisions regarding AI platforms, vector databases, orchestration frameworks, infrastructure, scalability, reliability, and security.
- Drive adoption of production-grade AI engineering practices and operational excellence.

Compensation:
$85/hr to $115/hr.
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, skills, experience, and education.
Employees in this role will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package starting on day one of employment, including options for medical, dental, and vision insurance.
