Job Description
We are seeking a Principal Test Engineer to lead the verification and validation of complex hardware and integrated systems. This individual will serve as a technical leader across the full program lifecycle—owning test strategy, execution, and continuous improvement—while ensuring complete requirements coverage and high-quality deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, development, and execution of system-level test strategies across hardware and integrated systems
- Develop and maintain test plans, procedures, and readiness documentation
- Drive execution of functional, integration, performance, and environmental testing
- Ensure traceability to requirements and completion of all verification artifacts
- Analyze test results and perform root cause analysis to resolve system issues
- Lead technical reviews, peer reviews, and test readiness reviews
- Collaborate cross-functionally with systems, design, manufacturing, quality, and program teams
- Provide technical mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers
- Ensure compliance with safety, security, and export control requirements
- Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and test capability enhancements
Compensation: $80/hr to $98/hr. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education. Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of experience in test engineering, ideally at the system or subsystem level
- Strong expertise in hardware/system testing (RF, radar, EO/IR, or similar technologies)
- Deep understanding of requirements decomposition, verification, and validation methodologies
- Hands-on experience with test instrumentation, data acquisition, and defect analysis
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and technical efforts
- Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilities
- Experience producing formal technical documentation and test reports
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Experience with test automation tools and scripting (Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW)
- Familiarity with system architecture, design engineering, or modeling & simulation
- Background in defense, aerospace, or other highly regulated environments
- Knowledge of environmental testing standards (thermal, vibration, EMC/EMI)
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environments
- Self-starter with strong accountability and ownership mindset
