Job Description

The Structural Inspector will support bridge and highway structure inspections by performing hands-on, field-based assessments and assisting with data collection and documentation under the guidance of a Structural Inspector Team Lead. The role is primarily field-focused; however, during periods of poor weather or when field conditions are unsafe, the inspector will perform office-based work, including entering inspection data, assisting with report preparation, and supporting GIS-based documentation efforts.

Key Responsibilities
• Conduct physical, on-site inspections of bridges and transportation structures
• Assist with collecting, recording, and uploading inspection data using GIS and digital inspection tools
• Support inspection activities in compliance with DOT standards and project requirements
• Coordinate with traffic control personnel to ensure safe access and work zones
• Identify and document visible structural deficiencies or maintenance concerns
• Work as part of a team to complete inspection assignments efficiently and accurately
• Travel within District 3 as required for inspection assignments

Required Skills & Experience

Required Qualifications
• Ability to perform field-based inspection work, including walking structures and using inspection equipment
• Basic understanding of structural components and inspection terminology

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Preferred Experience
• Prior experience supporting DOT bridge inspection programs
• Familiarity with GIS-based or electronic inspection reporting platforms
• Background in civil or structural engineering or related field
• Proven bridge inspection experience
