Job Description

The Technical Nuclear Human Factors Engineer provides technical guidance on near-term and longer-range projects in the area of Nuclear Human Factors Engineering regarding human performance capabilities and limitations as well as applicable human factors design and evaluation practices, principles, guidelines, and standards. Responsibilities include:
• Knowledge of the human factors engineering process.
• Knowledge of nuclear plant operations and nuclear regulatory processes.
• Ability to determine the requirements for the displays, controls, and other job support aids needed to accomplish functions.
• Ability to translate requirements into controls, displays, software & hardware for monitoring, control, and protection functions for various plant systems and operating modes.
• Ability to review, test and validate human-system interfaces using a simulator and plant operating, surveillance, and emergency procedures.
• Ability to incorporate design requirements into analyses and design documents.
• Support the development of normal, abnormal, emergency operating procedures, alarm response procedures, surveillance procedures and operator training programs.
• Support quality requirements, including participation in design reviews and the initiation of and responding to Corrective Actions.
• Provide on-time, quality delivery of engineering documentation in accordance with contract requirements, business procedures, and regulatory agency guidelines.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Human Factors Engineering, Applied Psychology, Human Factors Psychology, or equivalent 4 year degree in technical discipline
• 4+ years’ experience in human factors engineering
• Experience with procedure writing, training, or surveillance test execution.
• Experience with alarm system design, alarm rationalization, and alarm prioritization.
• Experience with NRC and INPO Operator Training Guidelines.
• Experience with NRC Regulatory Guide 0711 or 0711 site implementation and reviews.
• Strong oral and written communication skills; communicates messages clearly and concisely.
• Solid technical writing skills with focus on requirements, design, and description documents.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• M.S. or PhD Degree in Human Factors Engineering or related Discipline or equivalent.
• Registered Professional Engineer in the United States.
• PPA Procedure Writer’s Certification
