Job Description

A U.S. based manufacturer best known for its truck-mounted vacuum and industrial cleaning equipment is seeking a skilled Senior Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join their expanding company. The Senior Heavy Equipment Mechanic serves as a lead technical resource responsible for diagnosing complex issues, performing advanced repairs, and overseeing preventative maintenance (PM) programs on truck-mounted vacuum equipment and, when applicable, the truck chassis. This position provides hands-on technical experience along with exposure to shop operations, workflow coordination, and customer interaction. Most of the work will be performed in the shop with an occasional field service call. In addition to strong technical ability, this role is designed for an individual who demonstrates leadership potential and an interest in developing into future leadership opportunities. This position provides opportunities to mentor technicians, support operational improvements, and gain exposure to service management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of advanced mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical system issues
• Utilize diagnostic software and laptop computers to interpret fault codes, program control systems, and support root cause analysis
• Read, interpret complex electrical and hydraulic schematics and provide guidance to other technicians
• Oversee and perform scheduled PM inspections across chassis, vacuum systems, hydraulic, electrical, air, and water systems
• Ensure all repairs meet DOT and OEM standards and return equipment to “Ready to Rent” condition
• Perform and review “check in” and “check out” inspections for fleet equipment accuracy and completeness
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to mechanics and technicians
• Assist with coordinating shop workflow and prioritizing repair activities to support efficiency
• Identify recurring issues and recommend process or design improvements
• Maintain accurate, organized service documentation and ensure compliance with internal standards
• Promote and maintain a safe, clean, and efficient shop environment
• Support parts coordination and assist with shipping/receiving as needed
• Assist leadership with shop operations and process improvements as opportunities arise

Working Conditions:
• Perform work in a non-climate-controlled environment
• Torque a bolt to 40 ft/lbs.
• Able to work with their arms elevated for periods up to 5 minutes at a time
• Requires various visual processing (i.e., near, far, depth, color)
• Must be able to work in an environment with noise at 75-decibels (25-decibels using earplugs)
• Must be able to bend, stoop and crouch or kneel for up to 1 hour or be on their feet for 90% of their shift and walk up to 75% on concrete
• Must be able to climb 13ft by way of 12-inch rung ladders
• Must be able to lift, push and/or pull up to 40lbs and carry that weight 5ft

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum seven (7) years of verifiable experience as a mechanic
• Prior experience in a senior or lead mechanic/technician role
• Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and handle major repairs for mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics
• Solid hands-on understanding of mechanical and hydraulic systems and electrical troubleshooting
• Ability to administer DOT inspections
• Must own and supply a basic set of hand tools and storage box (company provides large and specialized tools)
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for field service calls and training

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Experience with truck-mounted vacuum equipment
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical data, drawings, and schematics
- Familiarity with DOT or OEM standards for repairs
- Prior experience maintaining and organizing shop/storage areas
