Job Description

FR Conversions is seeking a hands‑on Manager of Finance or Director of Finance to own manufacturing finance, cost accounting, and operational reporting. This role serves as the financial ambassador between accounting, operations, and sales, ensuring teams understand true product costs, margin drivers, and profitability.
The role reports into the Controller and operates without formal direct reports, but with strong cross‑functional influence. This individual will be deeply embedded in the plant, walking the floor, working with operations leaders, and translating manufacturing activity into clear financial insights.

Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Finance & Cost Accounting

Own the manufacturing P&L with primary accountability for gross margin performance and cost control
Develop, maintain, and improve cost accounting processes including material, labor, overhead, standard costing, and variance analysis
Analyze SKU‑level costing and work order variances, focusing on material usage, labor efficiency, and operational exceptions
Support inventory costing and valuation in partnership with planning and operations teams
Perform deep‑dive variance analysis to explain root causes of margin fluctuations

Business Partnership & Operations Support

Act as a trusted finance partner to operations, plant leadership, inventory control, receiving, shipping, and sales teams
Walk the manufacturing floor to build a strong understanding of production flows and cost drivers
Translate operational activity into financial insights that inform decision‑making
Partner with sales to support pricing, budgeting, and performance analysis
Explain financial results in clear, practical terms, focusing on why performance is changing

Reporting, ERP, and Process Improvement

Own and enhance manufacturing and operational reporting within the ERP system
Partner on ERP improvements and reporting build‑outs, including work‑in‑process and margin reporting
Help establish scalable processes, controls, and documentation as the business grows
Play a key role in budgeting, forecasting, and KPI development aligned to operational drivers

Leadership & Ownership

Operate as a self‑directed leader comfortable executing analyses personally
Influence outcomes through collaboration, data, and business acumen
Support long‑term succession planning, with exposure to broader enterprise finance leadership

Required Skills & Experience

3 to 5 years of progressive experience in manufacturing finance, cost accounting, or operations finance
Strong foundation in cost accounting, manufacturing P&Ls, and margin analysis
Experience in process costing environments (percentage of completion not required)
Hands‑on ERP experience required; ERP platform can vary (Genius ERP experience is a plus)
Proven ability to work cross‑functionally with operations and non‑finance stakeholders
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
CPA or CMA not required

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Manufacturing, specialty vehicle, industrial, or construction‑adjacent environments
Experience cleaning up data, improving visibility, and building reporting from imperfect systems
Comfortable in high‑urgency, high‑ownership environments
