Job Description

Client: University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS)
Position: Insurance Verification Specialist
Location: Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital: 1708 W Rogers Avenue, Baltimore, MD, 21209
Duration: Perm - 20%

Pay Rate: $19.00 - $22.71/hr
Candidates with 4-5 years of experience will be considered for the higher end of the range

Shift:
Schedule: Monday – Friday, flexible start between 7:30 AM - 8:00 AM, end between 4:30 PM - 5:00 PM
First 6 months: Onsite 5x/week (probationary period)
Post 6 months: Hybrid – 3 days WFH, 2 days onsite (candidate’s choice)

Equipment:
No equipment provided for remote work
Must have own laptop and cell phone (app provided for calls)


Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Insight Global is seeking 1 Insurance Verification Specialist to join the team for a large pediatric healthcare system based out of Baltimore, MD. The candidates primary responsibilities are as follows:

Confirm outpatient appointment schedules daily.

Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, pre-certifications, prior authorizations, and referrals.

Obtain required authorizations from insurance companies, PCPs, and families.

Document appointment details in EMR systems (Meditech, EPIC).

Notify families of financial responsibilities (non-covered services, deductibles, copays, etc.).

Establish payment arrangements and refer to Financial Assistance programs.

Multitask, prioritize, and self-motivate to meet team goals.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

Must Haves:
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

2+ years of experience in insurance or healthcare.

Proficient with computers and office equipment (email, printer, scanner, etc.).

Knowledge of insurance structures, medical terminology, CPT, ICD-10.

Experience with EMR systems (Meditech, EPIC).


Key Expectations:
Ability to complete 25+ appointments/day.

Primarily facility billing experience (multidisciplinary they will work within: rehab, psych, BH, medicine).

Familiarity with Medicaid, commercial payors, BCBS, Cigna, Humana.

Willingness to cross-train and grow skillsets.

Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Some back-end denials / follow-up experience.
