Job Description

Day to day:
The Senior Outfitting Designer plans the form, look, or routing of equipment or systems within before fabrication or installation, typically through the depiction on a drawing or related document. The Senior Designer has enhanced knowledge of habitability and outfitting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce and revise 2D drawings and technical documents to support outfitting and habitability systems.
- Ensure design quality and compliance through peer reviews, standards verification, and physical installation checks.
- Collaborate across teams and vendors to resolve design issues and meet project requirements.
- Support technical processes including estimating, procurement, installation, and commissioning.
- Prioritize efficiency and accuracy in high-volume drawing production while staying current with industry standards.

Day to Day:

- Primarily computer-based work focused on 2D drawing production and revisions.
- Interface with internal teams (e.g., Trident team) and respond to redlines from shipyards.
- Review equipment specs and MIL standards, ranging from general to highly specific.
- Prioritize fast turnaround and drawing volume while maintaining quality.
- Designs are peer-reviewed and escalated to engineering leadership for mission-critical spaces.

Required Skills & Experience

Must haves:
In depth knowledge relating to the design of Insulation Systems, Joiner Bulkhead Systems, Sheathing, Ceiling Systems, Deck Covering Systems, Doors, Furniture, Galley Equipment, Gratings and Battens, and to a lesser extent, related plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and piping
Ability to apply safety standards and adhere to industry regulations, including T9640-AC-DSP-010_HAB Habitability Design Criteria and Practices Manual, OPNAV INST 9640.1C Shipboard Habitability Program, various MIL-STDs and MIL-PRFs, IMO/ FTP Code, SOLAS, and MIL-S-901 Shock Classification
Associate degree or technical school in an engineering-related field. Commiserate experience may be considered
Ten or more years' experience required
