Job Description
Performance of distributive functions in operating a hospital pharmacy associated with Cherokee Regional Medical Center. Serve as a clinical resource for providers, nurses, and other staff. Participate in antibiotic stewardship and pharmacy & therapeutics committees. Responsible for operating compliance with federal and state laws.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Maintains appropriate storage and records of non-prescription, legend, and controlled substances.
• Maintains appropriate pharmacy security.
• Serves as a clinical resource for providers, nurses, and other patient care personnel.
• Creates a competency dose regimen and monitors lab levels as needed.
• Compounds or oversees compounding of sterile IV products, including hazardous products.
• Dispenses and maintains prescription records in each client’s medical record. All patients served are age-appropriate pharmaceutical services.
• Offers all outpatient clients or a respective proxy oral counseling at the time the initial prescription leaves the pharmacy.
• Documents all adverse drug reactions of an uncommon or serious nature.
• Summarizes interventions appropriately in the electronic medical record.
• Manages initial contacts from pharmaceutical representatives.
• Participates actively on the antibiotic stewardship and pharmacy & therapeutics committees.
• Oversees use of Omnicell including stat access, stock levels, and dispensing.
• Participates in rapid response calls, code blue calls, and trauma calls during business hours.
• Provides the hospital with pharmaceutical services after hours on-call as scheduled.

Required Skills & Experience
Education:
• Required: RPh or PharmD degree.
License/Registration/Certification:
• Required: Active pharmacist license in the state of Iowa.
• Required: Register with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy.
Experience:
• Preferred: Prior experience working in a pharmacy.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Knowledge of federal and state pharmacy laws.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, classifications of drugs, and pharmaceutical arithmetic.
• Knowledge of pharmacy literature and online resources for researching questions.
• Skill in solving problems on an independent and team level.
• Skill in paying close attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to adapt to flexible work schedules and frequent interruptions.
• Ability to prioritize to meet deadlines on daily work and special projects.
• Ability to learn and use various computer programs efficiently.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Proficient in Pioneer RX or Epic EMR systems
- Hospital Pharmaceutical experience
