Senior Mechanical Engineer

Job Description:
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, execution, and optimization of manufacturing and industrial facility projects, with a strong focus on metals, steel mills, and heavy industrial processes. This individual will serve as a technical leader, partnering with clients, project managers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop solutions that improve plant operations, equipment performance, and production efficiency. Responsibilities include designing mechanical systems, reviewing engineering documents, overseeing equipment installations, traveling to local work site, and providing guidance throughout project lifecycles from concept through construction. The ideal candidate will have experience working within manufacturing environments and a strong understanding of plant processes, material handling systems, and industrial equipment. This role requires regular interaction with operating facilities to assess existing conditions, support project execution, and ensure designs meet safety, quality, and operational requirements. Candidates should be comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously while mentoring junior engineers and driving successful project outcomes.

Day to Day:
• Lead the design and optimization of manufacturing processes, equipment layouts, and plant systems for heavy industrial and metals production facilities.
• Manage multiple engineering projects from conceptual design through construction, coordinating with clients, project managers, contractors, and operations teams.
• Review and approve engineering drawings, equipment specifications, vendor submittals, and technical documentation to ensure quality and compliance.
• Conduct site visits to manufacturing plants and steel mills to troubleshoot process issues, gather field data, and support equipment installations and upgrades.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on mechanical, process, and plant improvement initiatives. (2 mentees)
Identify opportunities to improve safety, reliability, efficiency, and production performance across manufacturing and industrial operations.

Must Haves:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- PE License
- Experience with industrial piping design
- 5-10 years of experience within a heavy industrial or mechanical design environment
SolidWorks experience requires (academic or professional)
