Job Description
A client in the Indianapolis market is looking to bring on a Drill Helper for a top engineering and construction services client. This is an entry-level, hands-on role supporting subsurface exploration and drilling operations across transportation, utility, and infrastructure projects. The individual will work alongside experienced drillers in the field, assisting with equipment setup, sample collection, instrumentation installation, and daily reporting. This role offers strong training, long-term career growth into drilling, and the opportunity to work outdoors on impactful projects such as highways, retaining walls, transmission lines, and utility installations. Ideal candidates are hardworking, mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and eager to learn a skilled trade.
Day-to-Day:
- Report daily to driller and assist with planning and loading supplies for the week
- Drive medium-duty truck and trailer (no personal vehicle use)
- Travel with driller to job sites
- Assist with drilling operations (auger, mud rotary, air rotary, coring)
- Load/unload tooling, materials, and samples
- Collect soil and rock samples and assist with classification and logging
- Support installation of instrumentation (monitoring wells, piezometers, inclinometers)
- Perform basic equipment maintenance and routine repairs
- Conduct basic surveying and site reconnaissance
- Complete daily field forms, DOT logs, and digital reporting
- Follow all safety protocols and participate in pre-task planning

Required Skills & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to perform heavy physical labor (lifting 70–85 lbs, outdoor work in all weather)
- Comfortable using a smartphone for daily logs, DOT forms, and tracking apps
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Mechanical background (diesel, welding, fabrication, equipment maintenance)
- Background in landscaping, construction, warehouse, or other hands-on labor roles
- CDL Class A or B
- Experience with heavy equipment or drilling support
- Country/outdoors-oriented mindset (tend to stick long-term)
