Job Description

Insight Global is seeking an SMT Engineer to support Samtec’s Interconnect Processing Group by partnering closely with internal teams and external customers to develop, troubleshoot, and optimize SMT processing solutions for new and existing connector products. This role is highly hands on and customer facing, with approximately 50% of time spent supporting customers through SMT processing challenges and 50% focused on new product development and processing recommendations. The engineer will be responsible for hands on soldering and board level work, developing thermal profiles, selecting solder paste and stencils, reviewing Gerber data and PCB footprints, and ensuring proper connector to board integration. This role owns technical report writing, documentation of processes and procedures, and customer communication throughout the full new product lifecycle—from concept through production—often supporting customers adopting brand new Samtec technologies. Strong problem solving skills, technical writing, and the ability to guide cautious customers through complex SMT processes are critical for success.
