Job Description
Install, support, and upgrade systems and software for the College's enterprise Linux systems.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Assist with the planning, testing, installation, deployment, maintenance, security, support, performance optimization, and administration of server hardware, operating systems, and third-party applications.
* Participate in professional activities related to improving job skills and knowledge.
* Maintain system performance and backups.
* Participate in disaster recovery exercises as required.
* Provide engineering level end-user and departmental support as needed.
* Work effectively and diplomatically with peers and users, share expertise with peers, and encourage a team-oriented environment.
* Work with third-party vendors to support systems installed locally or hosted.
* Must be willing to travel minimally as necessary.
Required Skills & Experience
* Three or more years of work experience with Linux/UNIX systems, primarily in Linux/Open-source environment.
* Understanding of web technologies and the software lifecycle development process including familiarity with scripting languages, preferably bash and python.
* Administration, installation, security, and support of Linux systems.
* Strong analytical abilities.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
* Experience with Ellucian Banner administration.
* Experience with enterprise backup solutions.
* Experience with blade infrastructure, preferably Cisco UCS hardware.
* Administrative experience with VMware.
* Experience with installation and administration of Apache HTTP, Nginx, HAProxy, Apache Tomcat, Java, and DNS.
* Experience with cloud integrations and providers such as AWS, Google, Microsoft Azure.
* Experience with configuration management, preferably Ansible and SaltStack.
* Familiarity with DevOps model and methodologies.
