Job Description
We are seeking a Mid-Senior Platform Engineer to help establish and scale our Internal Developer Platform (IDP) using Backstage. This individual will be responsible for designing, building, customizing, and deploying Backstage while creating a seamless developer experience for engineering teams across the organization.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys operating at the intersection of software engineering, platform engineering, and cloud infrastructure. The successful candidate will be highly hands-on and capable of jumpstarting a new initiative from architecture through production deployment. This work supports Morningstar's broader platform strategy around AI enablement, developer productivity, and reliable cloud infrastructure.

Required Skills & Experience
• 5+ years of software engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, or SRE experience
• Hands-on experience implementing or customizing Backstage
• Strong proficiency with React and TypeScript
• Experience developing custom Backstage plugins and extensions
• Experience working in AWS, Azure, or GCP environments
Clear written and verbal communication — comfortable working across geographically distributed teams and with engineers outside your immediate area.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
•Strong understanding of Kubernetes and containerized application deployment
· Direct experience hosting or operating LLM gateways, model gateways, or LLM-adjacent infrastructure (LiteLLM, model routers, inference platforms).
· Familiarity with the emerging MCP and agent ecosystem (MCP servers, agent runtimes such as KA Agent or LangSmith Fleet, agent registries).
· Experience with observability platforms (i.e. Langsmith) and cost-attribution patterns for shared multi-tenant infrastructure.
· Experience operating platforms in a regulated or financial services environment.
AWS certifications.
