Job Description

The Business Process Analyst will lead process discovery, documentation, and process/system mapping for the Utility’s New Business Division. This role will partner with operational teams across residential, commercial/industrial, large projects, and application-to-first-bill functions to capture current-state workflows, clarify roles and handoffs, document standard operating procedures, and develop process and systems maps that support consistent execution and future improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct structured process discovery workshops and 1:1 interviews with SMEs across:
o Residential design
o Single-phase suburban
o Single-phase Chicago
o CIPA commercial & industrial
o Large projects
o Application through first bill
• Develop and maintain standardized process maps (swimlane/BPMN) documenting:
o steps, decisions, inputs/outputs, handoffs, cycle times, exception paths
• Create and maintain process documentation including:
o SOPs / procedure narratives, RACI matrices, checklists, job aids
• Develop a systems map / application landscape view aligned to each process step (tools, data handoffs, upstream/downstream dependencies)
• Identify process inconsistencies, bottlenecks, rework drivers, and control gaps; document findings and propose improvement opportunities
• Establish a process documentation repository structure (SharePoint/Confluence) including version control and governance recommendations
• Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to ensure process documentation aligns to system functionality and operational reality
• Support leadership with process standardization efforts and reporting on documentation progress

Required Skills & Experience

• 4+ years in process mapping, process documentation, operations analysis, or business analysis
• Proven experience facilitating workshops and translating SME input into clear, executable process maps
• Strong proficiency with process mapping tools (e.g., Visio, Lucidchart, Miro, Signavio, ARIS)
• Strong written communication skills (SOPs, policies, procedural documentation)
• Ability to manage multiple stakeholder groups and prioritize across competing needs

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Experience in a utility environment (electric/gas) and/or customer connection/service request workflows
• Familiarity with utility systems such as CIS, GIS, work management, design/estimating tools, billing start processes
• Lean/Six Sigma training or continuous improvement experience
• Experience creating business/system context diagrams, data flow diagrams, or application integration maps
