The main function of a Database Analyst/Programmer is to coordinate changes to computer databases, test, and implement the database applying knowledge of database management systems. A typical Database Analyst/Programmer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing security measures to safeguard the computer database. Job responsibilities include testing programs or databases, correcting errors and making necessary modifications, modifying existing databases and database management systems, or directing programmers and analysts to make changes, writing and coding logical and physical database descriptions and specify identifiers of database to management system or directing others in coding descriptions. This individual will need strong verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills. They will need the basic ability to work independently and manage ones time and have basic knowledge of database management software.
Typical task breakdown:
Research existing mainframe programs and documenting/flow charting findings
Enhancing existing programs
Writing custom one-time-only use programs to perform data modifications
Documenting change evidence for FSA/SOX compliance

Masters Degree with 4 years of experience OR no degree with 8-10 years of experience
2+ years experience with mainframe environment and COBOL development
3+ years with SQL/DB2 programming mainframe
3+ years with IMS or CICS development
2+ years with debugging tools like Xpeditor, Abend-Aid
2+ experience working with end-customers on IT requirements/testing
Strong communication skills with experience interacting with business partners on a regular basis
