Job Description

Insight Global's large manufacturing client is looking for an Environmental Compliance Specialist to join the Corporate Environmental Services Department. This team provides general guidance, regulatory advisory, technical support, and training to over 50 manufacturing locations within the US and Canada, including business units and corporate departments. Position likely to require travel at about 25% to complete environmental audits of the manufacturing plants. This individual will be at a plant for about one week for observations to make sure the plant is in compliance with municipal, state, and federal laws. After the site visit, they are responsible for preparing an audit report with photo and written documentation. Other responsibilities include:



Manufacturing Support:

* Provide general assistance and guidance to manufacturing facilities covering environmental activities such as facility inspections, permits, plans and related regulatory requirements. Examples of environmental areas may cover air, water, waste, land, and chemical material assessment and reporting.

* When necessary, support with or oversee negotiations with federal, state, or local agencies for the potential resolution of non-compliance issues, permitting matters, remediation efforts or inspections.

* Manage outside consultants and vendors to ensure project objectives are achieved according to scope, schedule, and budget.

* Collaborate with other corporate departments and manufacturing business units with strategic planning and environmental regulatory assessment in support of development of new manufacturing plant sites, products and/or capital projects.

* Participate in company-wide sustainability program efforts targeting reductions in air emissions, energy use, waste generation, and water consumption.

* Provide guidance to manufacturing facilities that are required by regulation to comply with Green House Gas compliance restrictions ("Cap and Trade") in the US and Canada.



Regulatory Compliance:

* Support manufacturing facilities with assessments of self-inspections and provide guidance in preparation for agency inspections when needed.

* Collaboration with corporate environmental services team and assigned audit externs in conducting annual multi-media environmental audits at manufacturing facilities including oversight on implementation of corrective actions when required.

* Conduct assessment of new raw chemical materials or additives requested for use in research trials and full production at manufacturing facilities based on review of existing facility permits and applicable environmental regulations.

* Keep current with existing and emerging environmental regulations that impact operations.

* Collaborate with the environmental services team on internal technical environmental training events provided to facility environmental personnel, plant managers, project engineers, and other corporate departments.



Corporate and Business Unit Support:

* Support new product development initiatives including assessment of impact on environmental permitting and regulatory requirements on the manufacturing operations.

* Support regulatory assessments related to internal capital projects and, potentially, due diligence or transactional activities.

* Assist on projects covering environmental site assessments, remediation cleanup, and/or environmental closure activities associated with historic manufacturing locations.

* Support the environmental services department with necessary reviews of environmental liability reserves and asset retirement obligations including coordination with financial and legal departments.

Required Skills & Experience

* Bachelor of Science degree (Engineering or Sciences strongly preferred).

* 3-10 years of general environmental compliance experience within industrial facilities/manufacturing.

* Strong experience conducting and preparing audit reports.

* Familiarity with the general requirements of facility compliance plans such as Stormwater Pollution Prevention and Spill Prevention Controls and Countermeasures.

* Knowledge of applicable federal environmental regulations covering multi-media (air, water, waste, land, etc.) in the U.S.

* Planning and project management skills- competency to manage multiple projects/priorities and execute to completion in a timely manner.

* Ability to travel to Canada occasionally.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

* Familiarity with Canadian Federal and Provincial regulations.

* Familiarity with RCRA, CERCLA, SARA, TRI, etc.
