Job Description
Job Summary:
Fluence is seeking a Power Systems and Grid Modelling Engineer to support the Engineering team and Product & Technology Team. This role focuses on modeling Fluence Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), particularly inverter components and control systems, to perform simulations across steady state, dynamic (RMS), and transient (EMT) conditions. The position supports global BESS projects and ensures compliance with grid requirements, system integration, and model validation.
This is a strategic hire aimed at supporting future market expansion and growing project demand. The individual is expected to provide immediate technical value, particularly around global grid connection work, while progressively taking on more ownership as the pipeline builds. Over time, this role is designed to evolve into a Team Lead/Manager position, with responsibility for driving workstreams and supporting new projects and markets.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
• Model Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for:
○ Steady state simulations
○ Dynamic (RMS) simulations
○ Transient (EMT) simulations
○ Frequency domain simulations
• Perform Steady State simulations to evaluate:
○ Short circuit performance
○ Power quality (PQ) capability
○ Voltage limits
○ Equipment overloading
• Perform Dynamic (RMS) simulations to evaluate:
○ Fault Ride Through (FRT)
○ Voltage stability
○ Frequency stability
• Perform Transient (EMT) simulations to evaluate:
○ FRT
○ Voltage stability
○ Frequency stability
• Conduct Power Quality studies including:
○ Harmonics
○ Flicker
○ Voltage changes
• Simulate and evaluate grid behavior of BESS systems with focus on:
○ Full system integration
○ Control systems
○ Model validation
• Prepare and review engineering deliverables:
○ Complex reports
○ Presentations
• Conduct internal quality reviews of:
○ Engineering models
○ Calculations
• Collaborate with stakeholders:
○ Internal teams
○ Customers
○ Consultants
○ Regulatory bodies
• Support end-to-end grid connection processes and timelines
• Provide progress updates and attend meetings
• Support modeling efforts for global Fluence BESS projects
Travel (~25%) to meet with customers and support projects (billable travel)
