Systems Engineer

Insight Global is assiting a client in identifying a Systems Engineer to support and optimize critical on premises and hybrid infrastructure environments. This role is hands on and infrastructure focused, supporting Windows and Linux servers, VMware platforms, and automation initiatives that ensure reliable, resilient business operations. This position is ideal for a problem solver who enjoys troubleshooting complex server environments, working directly in a data center, and improving reliability through automation and infrastructure best practices.

Key Responsibilities
• Manage the full server lifecycle, including installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, troubleshooting, and decommissioning
• Support and administer VMware vSphere, vCenter, and virtualized Windows and Linux environments
• Perform Windows Server administration (including custom environments and legacy versions such as 2012 R2) with a focus on server management rather than end user workstations
• Troubleshoot infrastructure issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long term fixes
• Administer and support Active Directory, distributed file systems, and enterprise storage solutions (vSAN)
• Support and maintain backup and recovery systems, including Rubrik
• Collaborate with offshore and internal teams where portions of server deployment and automation are handled
• Leverage PowerShell and SCCM/MECM to support automation and improve operational efficiency
• Participate in infrastructure design discussions, documentation, and major enterprise initiatives
• Support disaster recovery planning, business continuity efforts, and cross site replication
• Perform scheduled hardware maintenance and support third party application environments
• Act as a second level escalation point for infrastructure and server related issues
• Participate in an on call rotation for after hours support as needed

• 5+ years of hands on experience in systems engineering or systems administration
• Strong experience with Windows Server environments, including custom configurations and legacy versions (2012 R2 and newer)
• Proven expertise with VMware (vSphere, vCenter) in enterprise environments
• Hands on experience with SCCM/MECM and PowerShell, particularly for automation and server management
• Solid troubleshooting skills with the ability to take a problem, analyze it, and drive a solution independently
• Experience managing servers in on premises data center environments
• Working knowledge of Active Directory and Windows infrastructure services
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent practical experience

• Experience supporting Linux environments, particularly Red Hat
• General networking knowledge (TCP/IP, routing, switching)
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code concepts and automation best practices
• Experience with disaster recovery, monitoring tools, and enterprise backup solutions
• Strong documentation skills and the ability to collaborate across infrastructure and application teams
