Job Description

Day to day:
The Systems Engineer is a hands‑on backend engineer responsible for building, implementing, and supporting enterprise Microsoft platforms across cloud and on‑prem environments. This role focuses on designing and building servers, managing VMware and Azure environments, and owning system upgrades and migrations. The engineer supports Microsoft 365 services including SharePoint, Exchange, and Office 365, while also handling application deployments and troubleshooting backend issues. This role works closely with internal teams to plan, implement, and support reliable and secure systems.


Essential Functions
• Build, configure, and support Windows servers across VMware and Azure environments.
• Administer and support VMware infrastructure, including host builds, updates, and maintenance.
• Administer and build SharePoint Online sites, including configuration and permission management.
• Support and administer Exchange and Exchange Online, including configuration and troubleshooting.
• Administer Office 365 services including Teams, OneDrive, and licensing.
• Support Azure resources, identity services, and cloud configurations.
• Perform OS upgrades, system migrations, and infrastructure modernization projects.
• Deploy and support backend applications across VMware and Windows environments.
• Troubleshoot system and application issues by reviewing logs, identifying root cause, and implementing resolutions.
• Use PowerShell to automate administrative and backend engineering tasks.
• Support enterprise backup and recovery using Commvault or similar tools.
• Monitor system performance and resolve issues efficiently.
• Maintain documentation for builds, configurations, and operational procedures.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and security teams on system design and implementation.
• Participate in on‑call support rotation as needed.

This role is a 6 month contract to hire. The expectation is that this person will convert fulltime pending performance. The annual salary target for this role is between $90,000-$125,000/yr. Please note that rate is determined by a variety of factors and is subject to change.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of strong experience in an enterprise environment as a Systems Engineer with a heavy backend focus.
• Strong VMware experience, including building environments end‑to‑end from initial install through host updates and maintenance.
• Hands‑on experience building and implementing Windows servers, not just supporting existing systems.
• Strong Azure and Microsoft 365 administration experience with a focus on buildout, not just day‑to‑day support.
• Experience administering Microsoft 365 services including SharePoint Online, Exchange Online, Office 365, and identity services.
• Strong systems engineering fundamentals, including server builds, OS upgrades, and migration projects.
• Experience troubleshooting backend systems by reviewing logs, identifying root cause, and driving resolution.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Any Azure migration experience
• Commvault 11.40 expereince
• Microsoft Dynamics experience.
• PowerShell scripting to automate backend and administrative tasks.
