Job Description
An Insight Global Fortune 500 retail client is seeking an experienced Senior Backend Java Engineer to support critical modernization efforts across in‑store and point‑of‑sale (POS) systems. This role will focus on retiring legacy platforms and improving the stability and scalability of POS technology through cloud re-platforming and backend refactoring. This is a 100% backend role with a strong emphasis on Java, SQL, and high‑volume retail systems that integrate with physical store hardware.

Required Skills & Experience
• 5–7 years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong backend Java development experience (100% backend)
• Extensive SQL expertise
• Experience with BigQuery or similar large‑scale data platforms
• Experience with dashboarding/monitoring tools (e.g., Grafana)
• Familiarity working with hardware‑integrated systems
○ Pin pads, self-check out machines, in store technology
• Experience working in a cloud environment (any cloud provider)
GCP preferred
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• POS system experience
Retail industry background
