Job Description

The Universe Database Administrator is responsible for the administration, monitoring, and maintenance of Universe database environments to ensure system stability, performance, and availability. This role will support both monthly maintenance activities and day-to-day operational monitoring of business-critical systems.

 Support and administer Universe database environments utilized across the Enterprise
 Perform monthly Universe database maintenance including backups, housekeeping, and performance checks
 Provide day-to-day monitoring of systems to ensure uptime, stability, and performance
 Investigate, diagnose, and resolve database, application, and system-level issues
 Monitor batch jobs, interfaces, and processes; identify and resolve failures or performance concerns
 Troubleshoot and support Unix-based systems related to Universe environments
 Provide Pick BASIC programming support as needed for troubleshooting, enhancements, or maintenance
 Develop and maintain documentation to enable cross-functional support for database and system operations
 Collaborate with application teams, infrastructure teams, and vendors to resolve issues and implement improvements
 Provide front-line and second-level support as part of the Enterprise Applications team
 Support critical service management processes including Incident Management, Problem Management, Change Management, and Application Enhancements
 Clearly communicate technical information, system status, and issues to internal stakeholders
 Occasionally work after-hours/weekends to support maintenance activities or system issues
 Assist, support, and meet departmental goals and objectives
 Participate in an On-Call rotation as required
 Work standard business hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, with availability during these hours required to support business operations and collaborate with internal teams.

 Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience
 5+ years of hands-on experience administering Universe Database environments
 5+ years of experience working in Unix/Linux operating systems
 Strong experience with Pick BASIC programming
 Demonstrated ability to support production systems and resolve complex technical issues
 Experience performing database maintenance, backups, monitoring, and performance tuning
 Understanding of system architecture and database concepts
 Excellent problem diagnosis skills (discovery, replication, troubleshooting, resolution, verification, communication, and escalation)
 Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
 Experience supporting ERP with high-transaction environments a plus
