Job Description
Develops drawings to be used to construct, operate, and maintain distribution and more complex transmission substation facilities. Independent interpretation of design data and the selection and application of appropriate drafting standards, practices, and procedures is required. This activity includes initial drawing preparation, initial check, and drawing revision after check by project engineer/designer. It also includes the conversion of field mark-ups into as-builts. All drawings should be complete and require minimal checking and revision. Assignments are generally independent and moderately complex. Most activities are performed on a CADD workstation and/or personal computer. Position is required to prepare drawings in Relay & Control. Support may also be required in one or more of the following disciplines: substation, transmission line, civil, or structural design. Position represents drafting issues on corporate teams. Assists in CADD administrative functions. Mentors Associates in the use of CADD.

Required Skills & Experience
Technical Skills
· Must have excellent AutoCAD skills and familiarity with Vault File Management or equivalent system.
· Ability to convert mark-ups into quality as-builts with general supervision (Drafter II) with limited supervision (drafter III)
Non —Technical/Interpersonal
· Time management — be able to manage the fast pace of Relay & Control and get deliverables completed on time.
· Ability to coordinate and support drafting needs which must be outsourced.
· Customer Service — must be able to communicate and provide field support to Maintenance departments.
· Positive attitude is most important!
Leadership/Support
· Serve on and contribute to the As-built Working Group, eventually become chair.
· Initiative, drive, motivation — get involved and not wait on assignments. See things that need to be done and take initiative.
Other requirements:
Associate's Degree in Engineering Technology or two years toward engineering degree.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in substation design (electrical) with extensive working knowledge in the distribution and transmission applications of 46kV and above voltage levels. Must process the working knowledge of AutoCAD and the ability to interpret electrical drawings. Billing rate will be based on experience, demonstrated ability, and will also be commensurate with designers currently under contract. The drafter should be local to facilitate visits to substations or to the client office .
