The Staker plays a critical role in the planning and design of overhead and underground utility distribution systems. This position involves field data collection, site analysis, and the preparation of staking sheets and construction drawings to support the installation, maintenance, and upgrade of electrical infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of utility standards, safety regulations, and engineering principles.
Conduct field surveys to gather data on terrain, existing utilities, and environmental conditions.
Design and stake overhead and underground electric distribution lines in accordance with utility standards and customer requirements.
Prepare detailed staking sheets, construction drawings, and material lists using GIS and CAD software.
Coordinate with engineers, construction crews, property owners, and local authorities to ensure accurate and efficient project execution.
Interpret and apply utility construction standards, NESC (National Electrical Safety Code), and local regulations.
Identify potential conflicts or hazards and recommend design modifications as needed.
Maintain accurate records of field notes, sketches, and project documentation.
Support permitting processes by providing technical drawings and site information.
Ensure compliance with safety protocols and environmental guidelines during fieldwork.

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical certification in engineering technology, drafting, or related field preferred.
2+ years of experience in utility staking, surveying, or electrical distribution design.
Proficiency in GIS, AutoCAD, or staking software (e.g., Partner, SPIDA, or similar).
Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems, utility construction practices, and safety codes.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
Valid drivers license and clean driving record.
Familiarity with GPS data collection tools and mobile mapping systems.
Experience working with electric cooperatives or municipal utilities.
Knowledge of easement and right-of-way acquisition processes.
