Job Description

The Sales Tax Manager is responsible for the accurate and timely filing of the Companys multi-state sales and use tax returns, representing the Company in state sales tax audits, providing advice on the sales and use tax implications of planned transactions and coordinating with business divisions as needed to ensure compliance.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Recommend, Implement, and Maintain Sales Tax Compliance Software.
Collaborate with internal departments to ensure accurate data collection and monitor sales and use tax reporting data from Oracle and assure that they are accurate and reported on the returns accurately.
Prepare or review monthly, quarterly and annual sales tax returns ensure filed timely.
Establish and maintain electronic filing and payment procedures with State taxing jurisdictions.
Maintain and update sales tax calendar and assure that all sales tax filing requirements are included on a timely basis.
Prepare sales tax registrations where applicable.
Reconcile sales tax liability accounts and investigate account discrepancies.
Monitor, research, interpret, document, and apply tax law or advise tax management of the impact on the business.
Serve as a technical resource in the area of sales and use tax and maintain jurisdiction and industry knowledge where the Company operates.
Identify opportunities for process enhancements and efficiencies in managing the sales tax function.
Ensure overall compliance with indirect tax laws and regulations
Manage Tax Audits and inquires and resolve tax disputes.
Identify and assist with the implementation of process enhancements to correct issues stemming from audits or other diligences
Develop good working relationships with personnel within the Finance, Purchasing, Shared Services and other operations teams to help develop guidance and process enhancements if needed.
Develop and maintain taxability matrices, updating regularly for tax rate and law changes, changes in products, etc. and ensure consistent application across the different business divisions.
Other duties as assigned by the Tax Director or VP of Tax.

Required Skills & Experience

- Undergraduate Degree in accounting or a related field; advanced degree is a plus.
- CPA, CMI-Sales Tax or other specialized certification.
- 7+ years of Indirect Tax experience
- Strong knowledge of sales and use tax, product tax, excise tax, gross receipts tax, and tax technical concepts.
- Proficiency in tax data analysis and leveraging data to optimize tax strategies
- Ability to thrive working both independently and in a team oriented environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Power Point and Word.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to consistently meet deadlines of multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience in responding to taxing jurisdiction inquiries and resolve issues.
- Excellent verbal and written skills. Ability to compose responses to taxing jurisdictions in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to understand and interpret income tax laws and regulations and determine their effects upon the Companys liability.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and division accounting groups and effectively respond to tax related questions.
- Ability to accurately calculate tax liabilities and percentages
- Ability to create formulas to calculate sums and percentages
- Ability to understand written and verbal instructions and apply them to the determination of tax liabilities.
- Ability to understand tax laws and regulations and apply them in determining federal, state and local income tax filing requirements and liabilities.
