Job Description

Norfolk Southern Corporation is looking for a Lead AWS Data Engineer to lead an organization-wide data strategy on a newly formed team. This Engineer will be responsible for data architecture at Norfolk Southern including coordinating with business and functional areas to establish and communicate our data fabric -- framework and tools. The Sr. Data Engineer serves as a point of contact for data architecture and will work closely with business and functional areas. Together we will establish a new data fabric for Norfolk Southern that will help create a common view of data and provide a centralized mechanism for its aggregation, cleansing, transformation, augmentation, validation, and syndication.

Required Skills & Experience

6-10+ years of experience implementing with a variety of on-premises and AWS cloud data management, integration, visualization, and analytical technologies

Advanced proficiency in end-to-end data architecture solutions including ingestion, storage and relational modeling leveraging industry standard languages including SQL and Python

"Hands on" - Demonstrated proficiency in the design and implementation of modern data architectures and concepts such as AWS cloud services, real-time data distribution (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis, DataFlow, Airflow), NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB, HBase, CosmosDB) and modern data warehouse tools including Snowflake and DataBricks

Ability to think strategically and relate architectural decisions and recommendations to business needs and client culture

Ability to assess traditional and modern data architectural components based on business needs

Familiarity with recommending data governance best practices including MDM, security, privacy and policies
